Party with a Purpose

GattiTown Surprise Party

by Mary Beth White

“Surprise!” Having our son’s surprise birthday party at GattiTown was a great experience for all of us. Our son had been begging to go to GattiTown all summer, since one of his friends had gone and told him about it. “Pizza and video games . . . been there, done that” – or so I thought.

We had been putting off going to GattiTown, but decided to have our son’s “friend” birthday party there to surprise him. The staff seemed to enjoy being part of the surprise and got some of the last minute guests to the room quickly. When my husband came with our son (supposedly just to check out the place), the staff took him to the dining room for the big surprise. Was he surprised? Absolutely! And quite honestly, so was I.

GattiTown wasn’t anything like I had expected. Like most moms, I’ve seen plenty of “play & eat” places where I felt like I needed to disinfect my children as we went through; however, GattiTown was different. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the restaurant.

The staff was great and the service was among the best we have received anywhere. When I arrived with the cake, one of the servers helped me with the cake, took it out of the box, and put the candles on it. They then proceeded to make sure that I had everything else that I needed and went above and beyond my expectations. Perhaps my favorite part of the party was the use of one of the television sets in the large room. I had put a large quantity of pictures of the birthday boy on a memory stick, which the staff set up to be played as a slide show during the party. Our son and his friends all got a good laugh out of some of the pictures.

The salad buffet looked really good. I had really good intentions of having a nice big salad. However, our wonderful servers brought some pizza out to the table and, let’s just say, I never made it to the salad bar. However, I was told by some of the other guests that the salad and the other goodies on the bar were very good also.

After the children were done eating, the staff took them over to an area to do group activities. I hadn’t arranged anything specific before the party; however I was quite amused that the staff got the children doing the chicken dance and the limbo among other activities.

Well, of course the “main attraction” for the children was the game time. The game area wasn’t huge, but seemed to have something for everyone. I personally didn’t ride the bumper cars, but they looked like a lot of fun; and the kids really enjoyed them. Another favorite for the children was the motor cycle simulator.

The game area was completely separate from the dining area, so not only was there not any food in the game area, but while the kids were playing, the parents could relax in the dining room and actually carry on a conversation.

So, it’s safe to say that the birthday boy wasn’t the only one surprised by the GattiTown birthday party. GattiTown is a great place to have a birthday party, and I’m sure it won’t be long before we go back just for food and fun.
