Keswick Crusaders Cross Country Team 2011
Congratulations to the Keswick Christian Crusaders cross country team on being selected as Joto’s Top Team of the Month. Fans and parents were amazed this season, as the Crusaders consistently exceeded all expectations —both in competition and in character. This year, both the boys’ and girls’ teams advanced out of Districts and Regionals to qualify for the State Meet. Both teams earned runner-up titles in the District meet, and advanced to State, with a 4th place finish for the boys and a 5th place finish for the girls in the Regional meet at Taylor Park. The girls’ team have been frequent attendees at the State Meet having qualified for the last 5 years in a row, and 9 of the last 12 years. However this is the first time that the boys have qualified since 2005. The late Coach Lance Lipham built the cross country program at Keswick until his passing in 2008 from pancreatic cancer. Since then Coach Fred Meinke has continued building upon the foundation that Coach Lipham established, bringing a continual expectation of excellence, commitment and fun.
The girls’ team this season consisted of senior Mary Jacubec, juniors Hannah Palm and Alyssa Bowman, freshman Ellie Palm, 8th grader Erin Endrulat, and 6th graders Aubree Franz, Taylor Norrie and Beth Yale. The Crusaders are a fairly young team with a lot of potential to return to Dade City again next year.
The boys’ team consisted of seniors Derek Endrulat, Brad Schaefer and James Welch, juniors Matt Bird and Jacob Endrulat, sophomore Trevor Quandt, freshman Nate Brand and 8th grader Caleb Shearer. Jacob Endrulat paved the way for the boys this year and finished 24th in the State for 1A with a time of 17:13.59.
The Crusaders Cross Country team exhibited a consistent testimony and a team-based humility all season as they encouraged each other and focused on honoring the Lord through every meet. It is a typical day to see them praying together before and after the race and encouraging each other each step of the way during. “Competing in the State Meet is always a great opportunity and climax to the season,” says Athletic Director Karrmayne King. “However, the development of character, Christlike qualities, relationships and life skills along the way are the true trophies that will never leave the memories of this team.”
Joto’s and Gulf Coast Family commend the Keswick Cross Country team for their effort, their excellence, and their awesome team spirit!
